Morocco desert is home to many kasbahs and film sets. A private tour from Marrakech to Ouarzazate exploring these locations makes for a memorable experience. First, you’ll visit the Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site used as a filming location for Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Then continue on to Ouarzazate, known for its film studios and historic fortifications.
Your Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate day tour starts at 8 a.m. Your English-speaking driver will pick you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Leave to travel through the Atlas Mountains and Tizi Ntichka pass to reach Ait Ben Haddou. You’ll stop numerous times along the way to have some fresh air and enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the way; these stops are also excellent opportunities to take some stunning pictures!
Discover the allure of Berber villages in Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, which used to be the production site of several Hollywood epics, such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. Enjoy a walk around the village and its sites, and then have an exquisite Moroccan lunch at the terrace of a local café overlooking the Kasbahs. Afterwards, head to Ouarzazat, 30km away from Ait Ben Haddou and also famous for filmmaking. Ouarzazate is considered to be the ‘’Hollywood of Morocco’’ as it comprises two major studios and a cinematographic art museum.
The tour continues to the Kasbah of Taourirte. This well-preserved fortress is known for its repeated occurrence in ancient storytelling. The entrance to the Kasbah costs 20dh (2 Euros). You can also hire a local guide to guide you through the Kasbah and provide you with more valuable information. Then head to the cinematographic art museum next to the previously mentioned Kasbah. The museum is very interesting; it exhibits a collection of tools used in the filmmaking industry, costumes of actors, cameras, VFX techniques, and chambers used in filming movies. The entrance costs 600dh (6 Euros) per person, and you can hire a local guide. Then we will walk back to the city’s entrance where the Atlas Studio site is located. The latter is where filmmaking takes place, but it’s inaccessible during shooting. Your Marrakech to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate day tour ends with a transfer back to Marrakech via the High Atlas Mountains.
