Your 4-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with an early departure at 07h30 AM towards the High Atlas Mountains. First, you’ll drive past Berber villages and over the Tizi Ntichka Pass along the scenic route.
Then, you’ll continue to the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Ben Hadou, famous for its Gladiator and Game of Thrones sets. Meet your local guide, who will assist you explore the Kasbah before continuing to Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa. You may want to stop for a visit to the Atlas Film Studios, one of the largest open-air Studios in the world.
In the afternoon, you’ll follow the road of 1001 Kasbahs towards the oasis of Skoura. Here, you’ll find the most preserved Kasbah in Morocco: Amrdil, surrounded by lush green palm trees. Finally, the day will conclude with a drive along the valley of roses towards your lodge located next to Dades Canyons.
Today’s journey will take us to the oasis of Tnghir, a former military post during the French occupation of Morocco. It is famed for hosting a significant Jewish community until the 1960s. We will meet our local guide for a walk in the oasis along the stream, watching local Berbers working the fields. Our walk will end with stunning views of Todgha Canyons.
In the afternoon, we continue to Rissani, a holy city and cradle of Alaouite Dynasty, which still rules Morocco. We visit its dates market before continuing on to Merzouga . Dinner and overnight stay will be at one of lodges situated only hundreds meters from Erg Chebbi sand dunes.
After breakfast, it’s time to head out into the Sahara desert. First, you’ll hop on your vehicle and head to the Tisserdmine oasis to meet some local nomads. They’re hospitable enough to invite you for mint tea.
From there, you’ll be able to see the Hamada stretching out towards the cliffs that mark Algeria’s borders. In the afternoon, you’ll meet your camel caravan and pick a camel before following your guide through the 360-degree views of the beautiful desert landscape. The sun will slowly set over Erg Chebbi’s color-changing dunes as you make your way back to camp just before it gets dark, where dinner will be served under the stars next, thanks to a campfire flickering in the darkness.
After dinner, take a walk to one of the e nearest dunes to admire the crystal clear night sky or join your local host nomads with their Tam Tam drums playing around the camp fire.
Today, you can wake up early to watch the sunrise atop one of the sand dunes close to your desert camp. After breakfast, meet your driver and travel to Fes. You will first drive along the Ziz Valley, known for its Ksours, fortified Berber villages, and lush green oases dotted with thousands of date palm trees. Then, you will arrive in Midelt, located in the heart of the southern slopes of the Middle Atlas Mountains and famous for its apple farms and mining industry.
From here, continue to Fes through the Middle Atlas Mountains cedar forests with a couple of stops along the way; Azrou to watch the Barbary Macaques and Ifran for a cup of coffee. Finally, arrive in Fes late in the afternoon, where your 4 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes will conclude with a drop off at your hotel or the nearest accessible point to your riad.
