This 3-day trek across the Atlas Mountains is a fantastic way to see two Berber valleys up close. You’ll start in Imlil and end in Setti Fadma, passing through Tizi n’Tacheddirt (3600 m) and Ourika valley along the way. The high altitude will give you incredible panoramic views of the Toubkal National Park. A change in scenery will mark the second part of the trek. Instead of walking past ancient houses made of mud and stone, you’ll cross juniper fields. Gorges link the valleys, and there are plenty of signs of human presence shaping the environment – like terraced fields with vegetables, walnut trees, and apple orchards belonging to every village. You might even spot some monkeys in the Setti Fadma region with a bit of luck. Unfortunately, these animals are currently on the verge of extinction.

We embark on our journey from Imlil with an hour and forty-five minutes of trekking in the east towards Tizi N’tamaterte (2279m). Our hike will proceed through barley fields, cherry orchards, walnut trees, and apple plantations until we reach Tamaterte village. After passing it by, a pathway shall take us uphill amongst pine & juniper forests to Tizi for a short break – allowing time to witness the glorious scenery below: Imlil and Imnane Valleys scattered around with Berber villages perched precariously onto their slopes! Then, we continue for one more hour to Wanskra & Amagdoul villages, where we’ll have our field picnic. Afterward, another two hours are spent hiking along mule trails up into that ancient Berber town, eventually settling down at nightfall within a hut located at Tachdirth (2291 m).
After an early breakfast, we’ll begin a 6-hour hike in the southeast direction to the village of Timichi (1850m). For the next 2.5 hours, we’ll continue slowly uphill to Tizi’n’Tachdirth (3200m). Here, we’ll be rewarded with an amazing panoramic view of Bouignouane (3882m) and JbelAksoual (3842m) on one side, and Angour on the other. We can also enjoy the beautiful Verdant Valley stretching out below us. For the next 2 hours, we’ll follow a rocky path in the northeast direction until we reach Iaabbassen village (2030m). Here, next to the spring just outside the village, we’ll enjoy our field picnic. In the afternoon, we’ll have a 2-hour hike in the northeast direction down the valley to Timichi village – an ancient multi-layered terraced village surrounded by old nut trees. Our dinner will be waiting for us here. We’ll spend the night in a traditional Berber family house.
In the morning, we’ll have a delicious breakfast and then start our four to five-hour hike through beautiful corn fields and walnut groves down the valley in an eastward direction. We’ll pass through picturesque Tadrart and Anfli villages and arrive at Ourika Valley. Next, we will have our picnic close to Setti Fadma village, famed for its beauty. After another half-hour hike, we’ll reach our vehicle, which will take us back to Marrakech.
