Your driver will pick you up from your hotel/riad and take you on a 45-minute journey southwest of Marrakech across olive and orange farms to the Agafay desert.
As soon as you arrive, you’ll meet your caravan and get dressed like a nomad in a blue robe and head scarf. Once you’ve taken some photos with your new outfit and been introduced to your camel, you’ll start an hour-long ride across the stunning landscapes of the arid terrain. Depending on the time of year, there may be green vegetation, but the views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains on the horizon are always splendid.
As the sun slowly sets, make your way to a high plateau. Sit back with a cup of mint tea and enjoy the stunning colors that fill the sky. This is an experience you won’t soon forget!
Before night falls, join your driver on the way back to Marrakech. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel/riad or another location in the city center.
Agafay Desert is home to unique rock formations that resemble sand dunes. Though there is no actual sand in the desert, these hills provide a beautiful and interesting landscape.
Dressing comfortably is key to enjoying your camel ride in Marrakech! Shorts and skirts are not recommended as they may come into contact with the camel’s skin or saddle. In hot weather, sunscreen, sunglasses, and water bottles are essential. We offer traditional Touareg clothes to wear during the ride (a blue scarf and robes), which makes for a great experience!

The Agafay Desert is often considered an alternative to the Sahara Desert because it can be explored in just one day. However, you need a minimum of three days to explore the Sahara. Additionally, the Agafay Desert is less sandy than the Sahara. Instead, it is rockier and more barren. However, you may find white sand dunes-like hills which remind you of the Sahara Desert.
