Your Marrakech day trip to the Atlas Mountains will start with a drive through winding roads and across the Agafay desert heading south. You will pass by the Houaz Plains and stop at the stunning Lake of Lalla Takerkoust first. Next, you’ll visit a Berber house – belonging to a generous and hospitable lady called Fadma, who was kind enough to agree to receive guests at her home. You’ll be welcomed with Berber mint tea, homemade bread, and olive oil – all fresh organic food rich in taste and surely different from what you’re used to. If your tour falls on a Tuesday or Saturday, you’ll get to experience the Souk. This local outdoor market plays an integral part in the livelihoods of many locals. Here you can find silver jewelry artwork, handmade sandals, grains, spices, and much more for sale. After visiting the Souk, we’ll continue on our journey towards village Imlil-the entry point into Toubkal National park.
Get settled in Imlil and prepare to take an hour-long hike with your guide to the village of Aroumd. You will then be welcomed as a guest by a Berber family, who will treat you to a delicious Tajine, a famous local dish. Finally, head back to Marrakech in the afternoon. Your Day trip from Marrakech to the Atlas Mountain ends with your driver dropping you off at your accommodation in Marrakech.
Marrakech is just 65 kilometers (40.38 miles) from the Atlas Mountains. Imlil is the main town that hikers use as a base camp when climbing the Atlas Mountains.
